Senior Calendar

Senior Year- Class of 2019


  • School begins August 6, 2018.
  • Register for September 8th ACT by Aug 10th; register at           ; practice/prepare for ACT.
  • Senior portraits, Aug 20th   


  •  Labor Day Holiday, September 3rd
  • Graduate Sales takes orders, September 5th, Graduate Sales visit –  date to be announced; they sell graduation announcements, hoodies, and other merchandise. You do not have to purchase from them, you   have options: (a) local printing businesses, (b) computer programs to do-it-yourself, (c) internet companies that provide announcements, etc.
  • ACT – September 8, 2018
  • Register for October 27th ACT by Sept 28th
  • Start preparing college applications; most applications require a fee (usually a credit card must be used for payment); some applications  require a 6-semester (end-of-junior-year) transcript, complete a       transcript request form if you need a transcript sent to a school;  some applications require an essay, so you may need to have it  written and reviewed; this would be a good time to complete a  resume’ of you high school career.
  • There are some national scholarships for which you can apply, e.g., Gates, Coca-Cola, Horatio Alger, etc. Just remember, students from all over the nation apply for these scholarships! There are several websites that identify these scholarships. Look at the Counselor’s Corner page on the MHS website.

October                                                   * Homecoming- October 5, 2018

  • You can start and submit your FAFSA beginning October 1, 2018 – set up a FSA ID; set up student/parent PIN; complete FASFA for FY1920; use parent tax info from 2017;
  • End of first 9 weeks, October 4th; report cards distributed during parent-teacher conferences, October 4th and 5th
  • Fall Break (Oct 8-12) – this is a great time to visit colleges/universities you are interested in attending. Call the colleges/universities and set up a tour!
  •  ACT – Oct 27th
  • Submit college applications – There are steps to applying for college on the Counselor’s Corner page on the MHS website; for several colleges/universities, the application for admission is the application for their institutional scholarships – apply early!   


  • DeSoto Parish College/Career Fair, Nov 1st – get information from colleges/universities
  • Register for December 8th ACT by Nov 2nd.
  • School is out November 9th for Veterans’ Day  
  • Submit college applications!
  • Thanksgiving Break – November 19 – 23


  •  Fall Semester Finals and Fall EOCs
  •  ACT – Dec 8th 
  •  Last day of the Fall Semester: December 18th; report cards December 18th and 19th 


  • Spring semester begins January 7th   
  • Be sure to check your progress toward graduation!
  • Register for the Feb 9th ACT by Jan 11th.  
  • MLK Holiday – January 21st

* By this time, you should have done/be doing the following:

  • ACT completed and scores sent to your possible schools (there are still a few more opportunities to take it, but you should have taken it at least once)
  • College/university applications submitted
  • Senior pictures taken/scheduled to take
  • National Scholarship applications submitted, if applicable
  • FAFSA process finished – if not, get with it! The FAFSA is a requirement for graduation!
  • Graduation invitations – Prepare your graduation invitation list and order invitations         


  • ACT – Feb 9th  
  • President’s Holiday and Winter Break, February 18th – 22nd; no school for students on February 25th.
  •  College Goal Sunday
  •  “Local” scholarship applications usually begin arriving at MHS (hard copies will be available and most applications will be available on Counselor’s Corner page)

  • Cavalierette Women’s Club
  • DeSoto Retired Teachers Association – (For students who plan to major in Education)
  • Louisiana Sheriff’s Scholarship Program
  • Mansfield Grambling Alumni Chapter (For students who plan to attend Grambling State University)
  • Mansfield High School Athletic Booster Club
  • National Association of University Women
  • Purvis Memorial Scholarship
  • T J’s Consulting Scholarship
  • Wyatt Breast Cancer Awareness Scholarship


  • Register for April 13th ACT by March 8th
  • State ACT for Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors March 12th
  • End of third 9 weeks, March 14th; report cards March 15th – no school for students
  • Good Friday Break – March 30th


  • Prom April 6th   
  • ACT – April 14th
  • Easter Break – April 15th – 22nd 
  • Be sure that all debts to the school are cleared.
  • Be sure to return any IPADs, uniforms, books, calculators, etc. to MHS.


  • EOC Testing/AP Testing
  • Register for June 8th ACT by May 3rd; Register for July 13th ACT by June 14th
  •  Last day for DeSoto Parish Seniors is May 9th
  • Graduation Practice
  • MAY 17, 2019 – Graduation!

Note: Most colleges and universities in the State of Louisiana will be able to get your final transcript from the State Department of Education – the final transcript may not be ready until mid-June. If you plan to attend a college/university in a state other than Louisiana, you will need a transcript to be sent to that college/university; please submit a transcript request form.
